FACILITIES Maryculter Carriage Driving Centre is set within 55 hectares (136 acres) of grassland, enabling us to teach or take farm tours in safe surroundings, without venturing onto the Public Highway. We have 14 well trained horses and ponies, most of whom have been shown or evented to the highest level, often as multiples. We have an excellent range of modern and traditional carriages, including the refurbished original Road Coach `The Royal Higjhlander` Our popular `Farm Tour` drive takes visitors through the farm and along the banks of the river Dee, viewing the animals and plentiful bird life and observing modern farming practises. We visit the ruins of the ancient chapel (dating from1225) where the Knight's Templars worshipped, and finally pass by the legendary Thunderbolt Hole where one of the Grand Masters of the Knight's Templars met his fate! Maybe you will be lucky enough to see the shadowy figure of the `green lady` who is said to roam the valley ! Away from the ghosts, we have superbly flat grass dressage arenas, a full cones course, both man made and natural obstacles, and wonderfully safe pastures, inviting tracks and intriguing woodland corridors, making ideal driving facilities for all standards of students or visitors. Our yard and adjoining stables, harness rooms and coach houses are well designed for teaching all aspects of Carriage Driving and Horse Knowledge and Care. We have a charming self-contained flat within the farmhouse, designed specifically for use by our clients. Maryculter Carriage Driving Centre is the only British Driving Society Approved Test Centre for all levels in Scotland. ACCOMMODATION Our delightful and well equipped self-contained flat is ideal for those wishing to visit our centre and stay overnight. There is also a B&B and a superb Country House Hotel nearby.
