Ship's Quarters Farm

Ship’s Quarters Farm is situated on 85 acres in beautiful Carroll County, Maryland, surrounded by agricultural lands. The setting is an idyllic haven for horse enthusiasts of all disciplines. Ship's Quarters has the capacity to stable 24 horses, including Dona’s own personal horses. Since several boarders own more than one horse, the average number of boarders is about sixteen. Two barns located in close proximity to one another are used to house the horses at Ship's Quarters Farm. Both barns are open designed barns with each horse’s stall open to the outside, providing a healthy environment for your horse. The stalls are in a separate barn from indoor, which is healthier for the horse's respiratory system, and is peaceful, giving the horses a mental break from the stimulation of noise and activity of the arena and closed barn. Each stall has stall guards and dutch doors. The "Courtyard" barn is shaped like a U and the “Shedrow” barn is a row of 11 stalls. Stalls in both barns are matted and bedded with sawdust and generous in size, ranging from 12’ X 13’ to 12’ X 15’. Both barns have fly systems and grooming areas. You will quickly get spoiled by the amenities open to all boarders which include a heated tack room, a wash stall with hot and cold running water and heat lamps, a kitchen with microwave, a heated bathroom, and a washer and dryer. There are 4 riding rings available at Ship’s Quarters Farm including a 66' X 132' indoor arena with lights and mirrors which is located close to the barns for easy access during bad weather. The footing in the indoor is a wonderful mixture of sand, rubber and fabric coated with a polymer resin. The footing mixture is easy on horses joints, while the resin coating provides a dust free environment for all weather riding. A full size outdoor dressage ring with manufactured sand footing and a chain perimeter provides the perfect place for schooling dressage and for practicing dressage tests. A large jumping ring (approximately 130 X 300 ft) also with manufactured sand footing is available for jumping or schooling. An “instruction ring” is located away from distraction and allows for private dressage instruction.The instruction ring is the size of a full size dressage ring (66 X 198 ft) with yellow sand footing and a fenced perimeter. The four rings available at Ship's Quarters Farm allow the horse and rider to experience a variety of footings and settings without ever leaving home. Ships Quarters Farm is situated in the middle of hunt country and there is access on and off the farm. The Carrollton Hounds hunt in the surrounding area, and several times a year the hunt leaves from the farm. Most trails are on the borders and edges of fields, and also go in and out of lightly wooded areas. The terrain is flat or gradually hilly with the occasional cross-country jump. Many boarders at Ships Quarters take advantage of these trails to either warm up or cool down their horses, or to give their hardworking horse a day of rest and relaxation by hacking out. With the access to such a variety of riding areas and just 16 boarders, one can choose to ride alone or seek company. Even when everyone is at the farm, it’s never too crowded! The pastures at Ship’s Quarters farm are plentiful. Larger pastures are available for group turnout, and smaller pastures provide for individual specialized turnout. All pastures are fenced with well-maintained 3-board fence.
